Manhattan District Attorney Alvin L. Bragg, Jr. has recently announced the indictment of 33-year-old Germaine Parham following an attack on a 14-year-old girl in Stuyvesant Town–Peter Cooper Village in broad daylight, reported the Manhattan D.A.'s Office.

In an incident that stunned the local community, Parham was charged with multiple counts, including six counts each of Predatory Sexual Assault and Rape in the First Degree, according to the indictment. "This brutal, broad daylight attack horrified this community and the entire borough," Bragg said. Having grabbed her in the stairwell, Parham struck her head against the railing and then raped the girl, threatening her life with a knife.

The attack, which occurred at about 11 a.m. on January 29, started when Parham followed a woman into a building before quickly leaving. "As alleged, Germaine Parham raped a young girl who was just trying to return home," as District Attorney Bragg put it. Seven minutes later, Parham would forcefully drag his 14-year-old victim into a stairwell of a second building, as per the Manhattan D.A.'s Office.

With his arrest on February 3, the search for the perpetrator came to an end. The case is now being handled by Assistant District Attorneys Joseph Goldstein and Sean Brennan, working under the guidance of higher-ups in the department's Intimate Partner and Sexual Violence Bureau along with the Deputy Chief of the Special Victims Division, Shannon Lucey, and Executive Assistant D.A. Justin McNabney. Thanks were given to Major Case Analyst Desi Marks and Investigative Analyst Katherine Burke for their valuable contributions, as well as Detective Steven Clarke from the NYPD, particularly from the Manhattan Special Victims Squad.
