In a disturbing breach of privacy at Gino's Barbershop in Mantua Township, police have arrested 56-year-old Richard Doerrmann after a hidden camera was found in the establishment's bathroom. It is alleged that Doerrmann, a longtime employee, positioned a powerbank device, which contained a covert camera, to capture images of customers without their consent. According to PHL17 News, the camera was placed inside the restroom on or around February 5.
Following the camera's discovery by the barbershop owner earlier this week, police were contacted, triggering the investigation. As stated by Action News, Doerrmann gave contradicting statements during questioning. Initially claiming the placement was not intentional, he then invoked his Fifth Amendment rights without providing further explanation. Videos identified on the seized device appeared to show individuals nude, bolstering investigators' evidence against Doerrmann.
Charges against Doerrmann include third- and fourth-degree invasion of privacy, as detailed in the criminal complaint. A search of Doerrmann's laptop confirmed possession of naked videos captured from the shop's bathroom. NBC Philadelphia reported that local pizza shop owner, Jonathan Ladner, expressed his concern, saying, "You put your faith and trust in a small business, and there's a bad apple in the bunch is a terrible thing to hear."
Authorities are actively working to identify potential victims and encourage anyone believing they've been affected to reach out to Mantua Township police. Despite the ongoing investigation, Gino's Barbershop remains operational; however, reports from PHL17 News indicate that signs have been posted on its doors. Meanwhile, an interview obtained by Action News with an employee and a customer, who wished to remain anonymous, revealed their surprise and concern over the allegations.
