What started as a routine stop at a friend's house in West Bloomfield turned into a gunpoint robbery last Saturday evening, when a masked man demanded high-end jewelry and a wallet in a residential driveway, police say.
Investigators said the victim had just left a store and pulled into a friend's driveway on the 7000 block of Timberview Trail when the suspect walked up almost immediately. The robber reportedly addressed the victim by their first name, pointed a pistol, then took off on foot, running south through the neighborhood. No one was injured in the incident.
Police Say Robber Came Prepared And Knew His Target
According to CBS Detroit, police said the man was dressed head to toe in dark clothing and had on gloves and a mask. Investigators said he demanded specific pieces of jewelry before grabbing the victim's wallet and taking off, a detail that has them convinced this was not some random driveway shakedown.
Police said the robbery was reported at about 7 p.m. on Saturday. With the suspect still on the loose, detectives are treating the block like a crime-movie set, combing for any cameras that might have caught the man or his escape route.
How To Share Tips Or Door-Cam Footage
Per the West Bloomfield Township Police Department website, anyone with information or video tied to the robbery should call the Investigations Division at 248-975-8920.
The department also maintains a transparency dashboard and alert sign-up on its site for those wanting official updates instead of neighborhood rumor mill chatter. Officers are asking residents to hang onto any door-cam or dash-cam footage from around the time of the robbery that might help identify the suspect.
Neighbors Already Shaken By Separate Weekend Shootings
The holdup landed on a tense weekend for West Bloomfield. Earlier Saturday, a separate string of shootings in the township left one person on life support and ended with an arrest. WXYZ reported that police described those shootings as targeted and said the suspect in that case was taken into custody.
Neighbors told reporters the scenes around those shootings were chaotic and that police presence has been heavy, adding a fresh layer of anxiety as word of the armed robbery spread.
What Investigators Want To See Next
Investigators told CBS Detroit they are especially interested in any surveillance or witness video that could show the suspect's path through the neighborhood and whether he had a waiting vehicle nearby. They stressed that even small details on a blurry clip or a quick sighting could help them piece together what happened.
Anyone with information is again urged to call the West Bloomfield Investigations Division at 248-975-8920.
