The Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles (RMV) has just rolled out a special announcement: they're offering a chance to snag a piece of history with a special low number license plate lottery celebrating the state's 250th anniversary. With more than 57,000 standard plates already issued within just seven months, these plates are fast becoming a hot commodity among Massachusetts motorists. The designs feature a vivid blue background, 13 stars circling the pivotal year "1776" and, of course, the "250 Years of Independence" inscription. Here’s what you need to know if you’re keen to take part: applications kicked off today at 9:00 a.m. and will run until 5:00 p.m. on April 17. Eligibility criteria are straightforward—Massachusetts residents with an active vehicle registration in the state can throw their hats in the ring. Be swift, though, as only one entry per applicant is permitted, and the drawing will use an electronic random number generator. Keep in mind, winners will not only secure a special plate but also a slice of the state's storied pride; therefore, there is no fee to apply. Winners will be responsible for the standard specialty plate fee when claiming their prize.
