Houston favorite The Burger Joint is about to plant its flag in Memorial City, with a new outpost on Gessner scheduled to start serving on Thursday. Fans of the brand’s smash burgers, boozy shakes and late-night hours can look forward to a roomy dining room and a large patio at the new build, the latest step in the group’s climb from a humble food truck to a citywide fixture. Neighborhood diners can expect signatures like the Smoke Stack and kimchi burger to be on the menu right out of the gate.
According to The Burger Joint's locations page, the Memorial restaurant is listed at 1016 Gessner and is currently marked “Coming Soon.” The same page lines up the future Memorial spot alongside the chain’s existing Houston outposts.
As reported by CultureMap Houston, the restaurant is slated to open Thursday and occupies roughly 4,300 square feet, with about a 1,500-square-foot patio. CultureMap Houston also credits Cisneros Design Studio Architects with the project’s design.
The space and the menu
The menu leans into classic American burgers with a few mashups for good measure. The Smoke Stack piles pulled pork, mac & cheese and a fried egg on top of a burger, while the kimchi burger comes loaded with kimchi, a fried egg and cheddar. Delivery listings for the chain show the Vietnamese coffee shake and other boozy shakes as regulars on the menu, per Uber Eats.
Next door: a sister taco spot
The new Burger Joint will share the parcel with The Taco Stand, which also lists 1016 Gessner as “Coming Soon” on its locations page. The Taco Stand's locations page confirms the pairing at the Memorial address, and CultureMap Houston reported that the taco concept is expected to follow in April.
From truck to citywide roll‑out
The Burger Joint started as a food truck in 2015 and has gradually grown into multiple Houston storefronts over the last decade. The chain’s steady expansion and the Memorial announcement were previously covered by the Houston Chronicle, which has tracked the group’s moves across neighborhoods.
The company has not posted final hours for the Memorial site, but The Burger Joint's Montrose location runs roughly 11 a.m. to midnight, which suggests similar service will land on Gessner. For now, The Burger Joint's locations page still lists the Memorial address as “Coming Soon” and will be the best place to check for official opening hours and any soft-opening details.
