A man was wounded Thursday in a west Houston shooting that played out across two locations and left nearby families on edge, police said. The gunfire rang out shortly after noon, hitting a vehicle with two people inside and striking one occupant in the arm. That person was taken to a nearby hospital with what officials described as non-life-threatening injuries as neighbors watched emergency crews swarm the area. Residents said the gunfire erupted close to a school, a detail that ratcheted up the fear for parents and kids alike.

According to ABC13, HPD Capt. Tim Trometer said the shooting started at about 12:30 p.m. on the 700 block of Country Place and ended on Memorial Drive near Kirkwood Road. "Two individuals were in a car; some gunshots went into that vehicle. One of the occupants in that vehicle was struck in the arm," Trometer said. Police said the vehicle then left the initial scene before stopping nearby, where a passenger asked for medical help. Investigators were seen canvassing the area, looking for shell casings, surveillance video and any witnesses who might help fill in the gaps.

Residents told ABC13 they were especially shaken because children regularly play and wait near the street. "My friends' children are exactly across the street at this school, and they play outside," Crystal Romay told the station. The close call has neighbors pushing for more visible daytime patrols in the area and quicker follow-up from investigators when shootings hit so close to school grounds.
