
A midday shooting near The Abbey at Grant Road apartments turned a quiet stretch of northwest Houston into a crime scene on Tuesday, when police found a person fatally shot near the complex. Officers were called out shortly before 1 p.m. and discovered the victim outside the property, authorities said. Houston police have not released the victim’s name or any suspect information as homicide detectives continue their investigation.
What Police Say
According to Click2Houston, the shooting was reported to the Houston Police Department at 12:55 p.m. Tuesday near The Abbey at Grant Road apartments. HPD Lt. Larry Crowson told the outlet that a witness reported seeing someone in a smaller, black vehicle shoot the victim. Investigators were still working to determine whether the gunfire was part of a drive-by attack or something else. No suspect descriptions or additional details had been publicly released as officers processed the scene.
Family At The Scene
KPRC reporter Bryce Newberry was among the media at the complex as family members arrived and learned their loved one had been killed. “From what we know, somebody pulled up, five shots, and that was it,” the victim’s sister, Tesa Dembry, told Click2Houston. Relatives told the station they believed the victim, identified by the outlet as a 52-year-old man, had been visiting the complex when he was shot.
