Residents of St. Louis and regular traversers of Route 30, known colloquially as Gravois Avenue, are soon to have their say on the future of this key corridor. The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) is hosting a public meeting to collect valuable community input regarding the avenue's upcoming pavement resurfacing project slated for 2029. The event is set for March 3, 2026, and will run from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Five Star Senior Center located at 2832 Arsenal St, St. Louis, MO, 63118. Interested parties can drop in at any point during the three-hour window as per the meeting's open house format.
According to MoDOT, this is more than just a by-the-numbers infrastructure talk. "As MoDOT plans for repaving work, we want to make sure to understand the vision and goals of Gravois Avenue users and enhance safety for all," Jen Wade, MoDOT area engineer for the city of St. Louis, said. The process aims to actively involve the public to accurately reflect the diverse needs and aspirations of those who live, work, or regularly travel the 5.7-mile stretch through the city. With an emphasis on safety, MoDOT intends to thoroughly examine current roadway conditions, traffic patterns, and crash records to figure out how to significantly reduce accidents on Gravois Avenue.
Community engagement stands at the forefront of this initiative. MoDOT is seeking to establish an ongoing dialogue with locals and stakeholders, promising multiple opportunities for input as the study progresses. It is an approach designed to tap deeply into the local insights that often go unheard in typical bureaucratic processes. For those with accessibility needs, MoDOT encourages reaching out to Andrew Gates at [email protected], or by calling or texting 314-223-8003, before Thursday, February 26, to ensure reasonable accommodation for full participation at the March 3 event.
Not everyone will be able to attend in person, and MoDOT has made provisions for this as well. Additional information, along with a survey form, will be posted at Missouri Route 30 (Gravois) Pavement Resurfacing and Safety Improvements in St. Louis City | Missouri Department of Transportation on the day of the meeting. This gives all interested parties the chance to thoroughly review the project details and to provide their viewpoints up to two weeks after the meeting concludes, until March 17.
