The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) has announced prequalified teams to address truck parking congestion along the I-70 corridor as part of the Improve I-70: Truck Parking project. The Capital–Wilson Team, made up of Capital Paving and Construction, LLC and Wilson & Company, Inc., and the KCI Construction Team, composed of KCI Construction and Bartlett & West, are set to participate in the upcoming Request for Proposals this month, according to MoDOT.

Funded in part by approximately $30 million in federal INFRA Grant money, the project aims to expand and improve truck parking facilities along I-70. Planned upgrades include sites in Odessa, Concordia, and Wright City, addressing congestion that leaves public truck parking and about 75% of truck stops over capacity during peak hours. MoDOT said a successful bid is expected to be selected by May 2026, with construction potentially starting the following summer.

The project will use a Design-Build approach, combining design and construction under a single contract. MoDOT said the goals include completing the project by the end of 2028, improving the safety and quality of truck parking, minimizing construction disruptions, and creating job opportunities through a diverse workforce. The initiative also aims to enhance safety for all I-70 travelers and reduce roadway damage caused by improper truck parking on ramps.

As part of a broader infrastructure effort, Missouri has allocated $2.8 billion from its FY2024 budget to expand I-70 with a third lane over roughly 200 miles, from Blue Springs to Wentzville. The project aims to improve traffic flow across the state and is scheduled for completion by December 1, 2028. MoDOT said residents can contact 888-ASK-MODOT (275-6636) or visit the agency’s website for updates and more information.
