As Montgomery County heralds the arrival of spring, residents prepare to shake off the winter chill with the announcement that registration for the county's Recreation Department's spring programs is set to open Wednesday, Feb. 18 at 6:30 a.m., exclusively for locals first, while those residing outside the county mark their calendars for Friday, Feb. 20 at 6:30 a.m. to get their shot at signing up, Montgomery County officials announced.
Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich points out the value of these programs, saying, “Participating in our Recreation Department programming is a great investment in your health and well-being,” as he encourages residents to embrace the longer, warmer days ahead by staying active; seniors get a special nod with registration for programs like SOAR, Day Trippers, and Bone Builders starting later on the same day at 9 a.m, according to Montgomery County announcement.
For those looking to explore the diverse offerings ranging from classes and sports leagues to clubs and activities, the Spring GUIDE is poised to be the go-to digital catalog, shedding light on the available pursuits that aim to inject new skills and routines into the lives of community members, said Montgomery County Recreation Director Gabe Albornoz, urging everyone to sign up swiftly, with the popular classes and programs expected to reach capacity soon on registration day.
Residents gearing up to enroll can head to the ActiveMONTGOMERY.org for online registration or drop by in person from 6:30 a.m. on the launch date at the administrative office on Reedie Drive in Wheaton, and for those who might need additional assistance or have questions, a phone call to the team at 240-777-6840 is always an option, facilitating the representation of every member in the county's pursuit of health and community engagement.
Adding to the array of opportunities is the Rec Assist program, which extends a helping hand to eligible county dwellers, providing up to $400 per family member to use for Recreation classes, programs, activities, and memberships, according to applications now being accepted – a gesture that underscores Montgomery County Recreation's investment in the accessibility and welfare of its citizens.
