A North Broadway robbery erupted into gunfire Friday morning, leaving a 36-year-old man clinging to life and pulling fresh attention to a stretch of East Baltimore that residents say has been trouble for years.
Police: Robbery Escalated Into Shooting
Officers were called to the 100 block of N. Broadway around 9:27 a.m., where they found the victim suffering from a gunshot wound to the torso, according to Fox Baltimore. Police rushed the man to a nearby hospital, where he remains in critical condition.
Detectives say their early findings point to a robbery that escalated into a shooting, Fox Baltimore reports.
North Broadway Crime Context
The shooting unfolded along a corridor that has already been on law enforcement’s radar. Local reporting earlier this year detailed an open-air drug market probe near Johns Hopkins, highlighting long-standing public-safety worries about concentrated illegal activity on nearby blocks, as reported by Hoodline.
That backdrop adds another layer of concern for residents who have watched serious crime flare up in the area more than once.
How To Help
Detectives are asking anyone who saw or heard anything to contact investigators at 410-392-2411 or to reach out to Metro Crime Stoppers.
