
A tragic collision in the Hickory Grove Division has claimed the life of one motorcyclist and left another driver with minor injuries, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department reports. The accident involved a Kawasaki motorcycle and a Chevrolet Colorado at the crossroads of Lawyers Rd. and Split Oak Dr. around 6:34 p.m. yesterday.
The CMPD's Major Crash Investigation Unit and the DWI Task Force were called to the incident, where they found 49-year-old motorcyclist Marcus Carter with life-threatening injuries; MEDIC pronounced Mr. Carter dead at the scene, whereas J Cruz Garcia, the 47-year-old driver of the Chevrolet, sustained minor injuries, the Charlotte Fire Department also provided assistance at the crash site.
Initial findings suggest Marcus Carter was behind a vehicle turning right on to Split Oak Dr. and attempted to overtake using the center turn lane, which resulted in a collision with Mr. Garcia's Chevy, leading to Carter's ejection from his motorcycle. Following the event, Mr. Garcia was cited for lacking an operator's license and for driving uninsured.
Pending further investigation and toxicology results for Mr. Carter, details surrounding the circumstances of this unfortunate incident remain under scrutiny.
