A routine security check at a long-closed school in Nashville, N.C., turned into a crime scene last Thursday when officers discovered the body of 61-year-old Debbie Allen inside the former W.L. Greene School. Police later identified Allen and said her death is being investigated as a homicide.
Police: Homicide investigation underway
Nashville police confirmed that Allen, 61, was the woman found inside the building and said they are treating her death as a homicide. Investigators also said they do not believe there is an ongoing threat to the broader community, according to ABC11.
"The Nashville Police Department extends its thoughts and prayers to the family and friends of the deceased during this difficult time," the department said in a statement to ABC11.
The building and where it sits
Police said the body was found during a routine security sweep at the old W.L. Greene School at Sixth and Brake Streets, just outside downtown Nashville in Nash County. The structure once operated as an alternative school and is now permanently closed, serving as a storage facility for Nash County Public Schools, according to WITN.
