According to 8 News Now, officers responded to reports of a house fire Friday evening and arrived to find the residence engulfed. Metro later confirmed that a body was discovered inside and that a homicide investigation was opened. Investigators stayed on scene near Tropicana and Spencer while firefighters worked to fully eliminate hot spots.
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department has not exactly been idle along the Spencer Street corridor this month. In a Feb. 13 news release, LVMPD described a separate homicide in the 4800 block of Spencer Street, where a man was shot and a suspect was taken into custody. In that same update, the department reiterated its homicide tip line and urged anyone with information to contact detectives or Crime Stoppers.
What investigators say so far
Metro has not released the name of the person found in the burned home, has not said whether anyone has been arrested and has not offered a possible motive. FOX5 noted that when a body is discovered in a fire, police typically bring in fire investigators to help determine what sparked the blaze, while the Clark County Coroner is responsible for ruling on the cause and manner of death.
