What began as a medical emergency on a Southwest Baltimore block last night quickly shifted into what police are calling a questionable death investigation.
Officers were called to the 400 block of S. Payson Street, where they found medics already performing life-saving measures on an unidentified woman, according to FOX45. She was taken to a nearby hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.
Police said the woman’s body was then transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner so authorities could confirm her identity and determine how and why she died.
Police Response And Initial Findings
Investigators described the situation as a questionable death but noted that officers did not observe signs of foul play at the scene, FOX45 reports. Detectives are now working to piece together what led up to the medical call and the woman’s death.
The initial response unfolded along the 400 block of S. Payson Street, where officers arrived to find medics trying to revive the woman before she was taken to the hospital. After she was pronounced dead, her body was moved to the medical examiner’s office so the cause and manner of death could be formally established.
Neighborhood Context
The case adds to a string of serious investigations in the city’s Southwest District, an area where Baltimore Police have already dealt with multiple violent crime incidents in recent months. Department media advisories show investigators have been called to several significant scenes earlier this year, including a January recovery that required homicide detectives, according to the Baltimore Police Department.
Police are asking anyone with information about recent incidents in the area to contact detectives at 410-396-2100 or Metro Crime Stoppers at 1-866-7LOCKUP.
What Comes Next
Officials have not released the woman’s name, citing the need to notify her next of kin first. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will determine the official cause and manner of death, which will guide where the investigation goes from here.
Baltimore Police did not immediately provide additional details Friday night. This article will be updated if authorities release new information.
