Heads up, Norman residents and visitors: part of the ongoing 2-Way Gray Street Project will cause some closures and detours you'll want to prepare for. According to a recent update from the City of Norman, starting this afternoon, Crawford Avenue by East Gray Street is set for a partial shutdown. A contractor is taking over the street, estimated for three days, to progress voter-backed street improvements.
The heavy lifting shifts to West Gray on Friday, where crews will be delving into utility line work and paving operations. These efforts are slated to span four weeks, stretching from North Porter Avenue to University Boulevard, driving on-street parking into a tight squeeze and side street access into occasional limbo. Despite the obstructions, workers demand attention and caution as they toil amidst the hum of everyday traffic. Motorists are expected to stick to the crafted series of detour routes to skirt the construction hustle.
Local businesses and residents won’t be left stranded, though. The city is committed to keeping office and site access open as much as possible. They plan to notify property owners before construction gets too close to their doorstep. The entire 2-Way Gray Street project is expected to be completed in the spring, once the frost gives way to budding blooms. Questions or curiosities on the matter?
