The North Carolina Department of Military and Veterans Affairs has launched a new initiative to expand employment opportunities for veterans and their spouses. Called the "Unlock the Veteran and Milspouse Advantage" roadshow, the campaign began last Wednesday at the North Carolina Biotechnology Center in Durham, according to NCDMVA. The statewide effort brings together employers, workforce leaders, and community partners.
At the inaugural event in Durham, around 100 attendees gathered to discuss workforce opportunities for military-connected community members. Additional roadshow stops are planned for Asheville, the Triad, Charlotte, Greenville, and Wilmington, with the goal of connecting veterans and their spouses with local employers and workforce resources.
The roadshow serves as a platform to share regional workforce insights, highlight employer success stories, and provide information on state programs that support the hiring and retention of veterans and their spouses. NCWorks Career Centers are participating to help connect veterans, transitioning service members, and military spouses with opportunities in growing sectors such as biotechnology and aerospace. Their involvement reflects the state’s effort to link policy initiatives with practical employment opportunities.
NCBiotech, which hosted the first regional roadshow, is actively working to integrate veterans into the workforce. The event brought together industry, government, and workforce leaders to focus on opportunities for veterans. It also provides businesses with a chance to connect with resources, partner organizations, and explore financial incentives, including federal programs that support hiring veterans.
As per NCDMVA, the "Unlock the Veteran and Milspouse Advantage" roadshow is an invite-only event, but updates and resources will be shared statewide throughout the year. Businesses interested in learning more or staying informed about future events can access an interest form on the NCDMVA website. The 2026 roadshow schedule includes stops in Asheville in March, Winston-Salem in May, Charlotte in July, Greenville in September, and Wilmington in October.
