
North Carolina Governor Josh Stein has announced a series of appointments to state boards and commissions to enhance leadership and address community priorities. Among them is Leah Wong Ashburn of Buncombe County, appointed to the Governor’s Advisory Committee on Western North Carolina Recovery. Ashburn’s experience in the brewing industry and community involvement is expected to contribute to the committee’s regional development initiatives.
Another appointment is The Honorable Jimmie Cornell Silver, an elected official from Halifax County and U.S. Army veteran, who will join the Juvenile Justice Planning Committee. With over 30 years of experience in law enforcement and the military, Silver’s expertise is expected to strengthen leadership within the state’s justice system.
In healthcare-related appointments, Anita Bachmann has joined the NCWorks Commission, aiming to integrate economic development, healthcare, and workforce strategies. As CEO of UnitedHealthcare of North Carolina, she is expected to use cross-sector partnerships to strengthen the state’s workforce. Additionally, Dr. Siddhartha Rao, an interventional cardiologist, has been appointed to the North Carolina State Health Coordinating Council to help improve access to specialty care in underserved communities.
Supporting individuals with disabilities, Amanda Jarrell of Union County has been appointed to the Statewide Independent Living Council. As a parent of a disabled child, Jarrell brings personal experience and a commitment to advocacy for families facing similar challenges. Additionally, Julie Ann Palazzolo, a senior clinical audiologist, has joined the North Carolina Hearing Aid Dealers and Fitters Licensing Board, where she is expected to advance hearing health awareness.
