During Mardi Gras in New Orleans, federal and local law enforcement announced the results of Operation NOLA Safe, an initiative targeting violent crime. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Louisiana, the FBI New Orleans Field Office, and Homeland Security Investigations reported 175 arrests and the seizure of drugs and illegal firearms.

At the same time, a new Homeland Security Task Force (HSTF) was established. The task force, made up of federal and local agencies, will focus on drug and human trafficking, transnational organized crime, and violent crime. Its goal is to disrupt illegal activity, bring offenders to justice, and support victims while enforcing U.S. laws.

The HSTF was created in response to a presidential executive order calling for coordinated law enforcement strategies against threats to homeland security. Agencies involved include the FBI, ATF, DEA, U.S. Marshals, Postal Inspection Service, and multiple local police departments, working together to target criminal networks and enhance public safety in the region.
