A fatal crash on Interstate 95 in Flagler County today claimed the life of a 55-year-old woman from Palm Coast. According to News4Jax, the incident occurred after an SUV driven by a 23-year-old woman struck a guardrail and became disabled, coming to rest facing south in the northbound left lane, where a head-on collision followed.
The crash happened shortly after midnight roughly one mile north of Old Dixie Highway, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. Investigators said the 55-year-old woman was traveling north on I-95 when she collided head-on with the disabled SUV. Authorities reported she was not wearing a seat belt and died from her injuries, while the 23-year-old SUV driver suffered serious injuries and was wearing a seat belt, as stated in a crash report obtained by ClickOrlando.
Additional details from WESH indicate the 23-year-old driver’s SUV struck a guardrail before coming to rest in the left northbound lane, facing south against traffic. The crash prompted the closure of all northbound lanes of I-95 near Old Dixie Highway, resulting in significant overnight traffic delays.
