Early Friday, Parker residents trying to reach police on non-emergency lines hit a wall when the phones went down, and the department quickly told anyone with an emergency to call 911 instead. While technicians worked on the problem, incoming 911 calls were forwarded to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office. By a 9:00 a.m. update, the department reported that both the 911 system and its non-emergency lines were back in service.
Official alert and alternate numbers
The department posted the alert on its Facebook page, warning that the main non-emergency number, 303-841-9800, might give callers a busy signal during the outage. Residents were directed to use two alternate non-emergency numbers instead, 303-434-4026 and 303-503-8421, while service was being restored, according to the Parker Police Department on Facebook. Parker’s official site lists 303-841-9800 as the department’s primary contact number and shows headquarters at 18600 E. Lincoln Meadows Pkwy, the office referenced in the department’s alert.
Who answered 911 during the outage
During the phone problem, the department said 911 calls were being routed to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office while its own system was impaired. Douglas Regional 9-1-1 serves as the county’s public safety answering point and coordinates dispatch for several local agencies, per county dispatch guidance. The county’s dispatch pages also outline how to text 911 and list non-emergency contacts for wider county services, according to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.
Why these outages matter
Interruptions to police phone lines can create confusion and slow response for non-urgent calls, even when 911 is still functioning. They are not new to the area: a similar Douglas County non-emergency outage in April 2025 led officials to tell residents to lean on 911 for urgent issues, as reported in coverage of the Douglas County outage in April 2025, according to Hoodline. Elsewhere, past disruptions have at times been traced to fiber-optic cuts or other technical failures that can hit multiple public-safety answering points, according to national reporting on 911 interruptions.
How to reach police if you need help
If you are facing a life-threatening emergency, call 911 right away. For non-emergencies, the department directs residents to use the alternate numbers it has shared and to check its contact page and social channels for updates, according to the Parker Police Department website. If problems continue, callers can also reach out to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office dispatch for regional assistance, as outlined in county dispatch information.
