A midday argument in a Grand Prairie parking lot spiraled into a deadly shootout on Wednesday, leaving two men dead and two 18-year-olds facing capital murder charges, according to police.
Scene And Response
Officers were called around 2:30 p.m. to the 2400 block of South Carrier Parkway after reports of gunfire in a parking lot. When police arrived, they found a man with apparent gunshot wounds. He was rushed to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. A second man took off from the scene but was also taken to a hospital and died there, according to The Dallas Morning News.
Arrests And Charges
Detectives investigating the shooting later arrested Cameron Mills, 18, and Jeremiah Anderson, 18. Both are charged with capital murder, police said. Investigators told reporters that what started as a verbal argument in the parking lot turned into a gunfight, as reported by CBS Texas.
What A Capital Murder Charge Means
Capital murder is the most serious homicide offense in Texas and is classified as a capital felony. A conviction can lead to life in prison or, in certain circumstances, the death penalty. Under Texas Penal Code §19.03, a murder becomes a capital offense in several situations, including when more than one person is killed in the same criminal transaction, according to Justia.
Investigation Ongoing
The Dallas County Medical Examiner will release the victims' names once next-of-kin notifications are made, authorities said. Grand Prairie police noted that the investigation is still active and that the suspects' names and capital murder charges were detailed in the department's news release, per The Dallas Morning News.
