Philadelphia's streets witnessed another chapter close on its gritty avenues as Carlian Gonzalez, a 36-year-old city man, was handed a 188-month prison sentence with an additional five years of supervised release for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. According to the United States Attorney's Office, the sentence was passed down by United States District Court Judge Kai N. Scott.

Gonzalez, who had previously worn the stripes of a felon, found himself indicted in June 2024 before submitting a guilty plea last November. As the story goes, back on September 14, 2023, Gonzalez forced a sidewalk encounter into an armed robbery, pressing a gun to a passerby's head in North Philadelphia and leaving with the pedestrian’s cell phone. The robbed individual, after finding officers nearby, informed them that Gonzalez had stolen his phone while armed. The officers, in pursuit of justice, trailed Gonzalez, only to be met with gunfire when they attempted to apprehend him with activated sirens and lights. Unfortunately, it was only after an officer shot Gonzalez in the ankle, which had forced him to surrender the illicit weapon, that the chaos subsided.

Caught in the act and on video, Gonzalez didn't just engage in a perilous dance with law enforcement; he shot several times at a police vehicle, an action captured in stark relief against the night. Not to be left out of the action, the Philadelphia Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives brought their investigative prowess to bear, leading to the subsequent prosecution by Assistant United States Attorney David Osborne which now sees Gonzalez behind bars for the foreseeable future.
