A group of local law enforcement and fire rescue personnel have recently completed an intensive Honor Guard Academy, as reported by the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office. The participants from various agencies, including PCSO, Largo Police Department, Clearwater Police Department, St. Petersburg Police Department, Largo Fire Rescue, and Palm Harbor Fire Rescue underwent a grueling 40-hour training regimen. According to a social media post by the sheriff's office, the week-long academy included mastering drill, rifle handling, flag etiquette, and color posting, all while diving into the history and traditions that accompany these practices.
For the visiting law enforcement and fire rescue members, the program served as advanced training for those already part of honor guard teams. The sheriff's office described the academy as a critical step for PCSO members aspiring to join their Honor Guard. The Honor Guard holds a crucial role, presenting and posting colors at various ceremonies, providing funeral honors, and maintaining a constant vigil beside fallen officers' caskets. "The standards are exceptionally high. The commitment is unwavering," the sheriff's office statement read.
