Sheriff Bruce D. Zuchowski has a bit of good news for the youth of Portage County, Ohio, as he recently announced the winners of the first annual Youth Deer Hunt Contest organized by the Portage County Sheriff's Office. Two young marksmen, 12-year-old Adam Matics and 13-year-old Allen Kisamore, have earned the top spots in this inaugural event, which aims to engage young people in hunting and wildlife conservation efforts. Details of the announcement can be found on the Portage County Sheriff's Office Facebook page.
The first place winner, Adam Matics, is set to receive a taxidermy mount, while the second-place winner, Allen Kisamore, will be enjoying a chartered fishing trip for four. Both rewards not only commemorate their successes in the contest but also encourage continued participation in outdoor sports. In addition to the winners, the Sheriff's Office also tipped their hats off to several honorable mentions, who participated in the hunt, with some experiencing this tradition for the very first time.
The Youth Deer Hunt Contest is part of the Sheriff's Office's broader effort to engage the community and to foster a sense of responsibility and sportsmanship among the younger generation. By sponsoring events like these, the office hopes to instill values that will benefit the individuals and the community in the long term. However, not everyone sees such events in a positive light, with some voices in the community expressing concern about promoting hunting to impressionable youths.
