An early morning house fire in rural Burnett County left three people dead Saturday after flames tore through a home in Anderson Township, Wisconsin.
First responders were dispatched to the residence on Shogren Road at about 4:48 a.m. and arrived to find the house fully engulfed in fire. Authorities say the occupants were found inside and pronounced dead at the scene. Officials are withholding their names until family members are notified.
According to a press release from the Burnett County Sheriff’s Office, reported by DrydenWire, law enforcement officers, multiple fire departments and ambulance crews converged on the Shogren Road address. The sheriff’s office said three known occupants of the home were located deceased and that the Wisconsin Department of Justice Fire Marshal’s Office was called in to assist. Officials publicly thanked all the agencies that helped manage the chaotic early-morning scene.
Investigation Under Way
The cause of the fire has not yet been released, and investigators are keeping the scene active while they work, according to the Wisconsin Department of Justice Fire Marshal’s Office, as reported by WEAU. Authorities say more details will be shared after next-of-kin notifications are complete and key investigative steps are finished. No arrests have been made, and no criminal charges have been announced at this time.
Where This Happened
The home sits along Shogren Road in Anderson Township, a rural pocket of Burnett County just over the Minnesota border. KSTP noted the property is roughly a 30 minute drive from Rush City, Minnesota.
Local reporting and the sheriff’s release state that mutual aid responders from surrounding departments, along with ambulance services and township workers, helped handle the fire and its aftermath as the county’s smaller agencies coordinated resources.
Burnett County officials are asking anyone who may have information about the fire to contact the sheriff’s office. The office says it will release additional details when appropriate, according to WDIO. This story will be updated as more information becomes available from investigators.
