Please avoid the area at this time. We will share more updates when we are able.
What We Know So Far
The first public word from JSO came in a short, location-focused post on X that skipped details about potential victims, suspects, or whether shots were exchanged. According to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office, deputies and emergency crews are still on scene, traffic in the area is being diverted, and investigators are working the case. Officials have said they will push out updates as they are able to share them.
Recent Pattern Of Officer-Involved Shootings
The shooting unfolds against a backdrop of several high-profile officer-involved incidents that have kept a spotlight on how JSO handles critical encounters. News4JAX reported a deadly shooting in Oceanway on Feb. 11, and other local coverage has pointed to a string of similar cases since January. Those incidents have triggered reviews by the State Attorney's Office and internal administrative inquiries, according to News4JAX.
Investigation And Next Steps
As with other officer-involved shootings, this case is expected to go through a review by the State Attorney's Office, followed by internal scrutiny from JSO. The agency has previously released critical incident briefings on its public news page when footage and reports were ready. The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office says it will share additional details as they are cleared for release and once the State Attorney’s Office completes any independent review. In the meantime, officials are continuing to ask residents to avoid the Fox Tail Lane and Old Kings Road area while investigators remain on scene.
