Giontae Dixon, a 26-year-old Racine man, has been charged following a multi-city crime spree on Tuesday last week that involved theft, a high-speed chase, and the carjacking of a police squad car. The incidents began near an Oak Creek motel around 4 a.m. when Dixon, who had an open warrant, fled from officers in a white Dodge Caravan.

FOX6 Now reports that Dixon then allegedly tried to steal a television from a Walmart in Brown Deer around 5:45 a.m. The pursuit continued to Mayfair Mall in Wauwatosa by 10 a.m., where Dixon was seen in the van and reportedly jumped into an unoccupied squad car during an attempt to stop him, nearly striking officers. Prosecutors said that Dixon did everything possible to avoid arrest.

During a court hearing yesterday, Dixon’s appearance was waived due to concerns about his ability to participate in his defense, and a competency exam was ordered. He was held on a $50,000 bond and faces over 80 years in prison if convicted on all charges.

WISN reports that Dixon was also involved in an earlier incident at a Motel 6 in Oak Creek, where he allegedly became physically aggressive with a woman.

Wauwatosa Police Chief James MacGillis said officers sustained minor injuries during the chase, including a crash involving another squad car. Four officers were hospitalized but have returned to work, according to WTMJ. Dixon is being held at the Milwaukee County Jail while charges with the Waukesha County District Attorney’s Office are pending.
