The Raleigh Police Department announced that Officer Slade of the Use of Force Training and Analysis Unit (UFTA) has earned certification as an Advanced Specialist in Behavioral Analysis of Force Encounters. The achievement was yesterday, on the city’s official website, noting the skills and expertise Officer Slade now contributes to the department.
The Advanced Force Science Specialist Course spans 18 weeks and includes 300 hours of specialized training. Participants, including Officer Slade, study behavioral science as it relates to high-stress law enforcement encounters, focusing on human motor skills, cognitive functions, and factors that influence officers’ responses in critical situations, according to the city’s announcement.
A key component of the advanced training is the study of motor movement and physical responses during high-stress situations. This certification builds on the prerequisite Force Science Analyst course required for all UFTA members, enhancing Officer Slade’s ability to review and analyze use-of-force incidents with a scientific approach. The curriculum incorporates current research, academic texts, and peer-reviewed journal articles, along with collaboration with researchers and analysis of real-world case studies.
