
Early Friday morning, a domestic dispute on the 7400 block of Park Avenue South in Richfield escalated into a barricade situation when, according to police, an adult man forced his way into his mother’s home, assaulted her and then armed himself with a knife inside. The woman managed to escape and call 911, and officers later took the man into custody after what authorities described as a prolonged standoff.

In a post on the City of Richfield Police Department Facebook page, the department said officers were dispatched at about 6:11 a.m. The post states the man forced entry into the residence, assaulted his mother and then armed himself with a knife before barricading inside. According to the same post, the mother was able to get out of the home and contact police.
Standoff and Arrest
Police said in the Facebook post that officers “conducted prolonged negotiations” with the man after he barricaded himself inside the residence. Eventually, officers entered the home and took him into custody. The department noted that the investigation is ongoing and did not indicate whether formal charges had yet been filed.

The Richfield Police Department did not release the suspect’s name in its post. Officers asked anyone with information about the incident to contact the department, and reminded the public that anyone in immediate danger should call 911.
