Early today along South Division Street in Salisbury, a quiet stretch of road turned into a rescue scene when a car tore through a guardrail and plunged into a nearby pond. Divers reached the submerged vehicle about 100 feet off the roadway and rapidly pulled out all three people inside. Two were critically injured and flown to specialized trauma care in Baltimore, while the third was taken to a local hospital.
According to a post on Facebook from the Salisbury Fire Department, photos from the scene show crews working around the pond as multiple agencies responded, including Fruitland Fire Department, the Sharptown dive team and Salisbury Special Operations. The department notes that one patient was taken to Peninsula Regional Medical Center and that medevac units known as "Trooper 6" and "Trooper 7" flew two critically injured patients to Shock Trauma in Baltimore.
Rescue and hospital transports
The Salisbury Fire Department post states that the two most seriously injured patients were flown to the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, and a third patient was transported to Peninsula Regional Medical Center in downtown Salisbury. Shock Trauma serves as the region's Level I trauma center, handling critical cases from across Maryland, while Peninsula Regional is a key hospital for the broader Delmarva Peninsula.
Maryland State Police Aviation Command crews use section call signs such as Trooper 6 and Trooper 7 on medevac missions, and those aircraft are routinely dispatched to high-acuity scenes around the state.
Scene and dive operations
The fire department's post explains that divers entered the pond and quickly found one occupant on top of the submerged vehicle, then learned two more people were still inside. Divers removed all three patients from the water, and photos from the scene show the vehicle had punched through a guardrail before coming to rest around 100 feet from the road in the pond.
Local dive teams and past calls
The Sharptown dive team and the Salisbury Special Operations Dive Team regularly respond to water rescues throughout Wicomico County. A similar call in October 2025 involved recovering a submerged pickup truck, as WMDT reported. These specialized units often work alongside tow companies and county investigators to recover vehicles and figure out how incidents unfolded.
The Salisbury Fire Department's Facebook post does not identify the car's occupants or explain what caused the crash, and at the time of publication it remained the main public account of the rescue. Officials have not released additional information about the victims' conditions or any investigation into the crash.
