San Antonio police are trying to track down a maintenance worker accused of forcing his way into a woman's apartment and attempting to sexually assault her while her 4-year-old daughter was inside the unit.

The alleged attack happened July 8, 2025, at an apartment complex in the 3700 block of Fredericksburg Road. Investigators have identified the suspect as 43-year-old Jesus Carlos Rivera, who worked at the property, and say the case is still very much active as they move toward possible prosecution.

Detectives Push For Felony Warrant

SAPD detectives have asked a judge to sign off on a felony arrest warrant charging Rivera with attempted sexual assault and requested that his bond be set at $50,000, according to KENS5. The warrant request, filed months after the July incident, is the latest move as investigators work to find Rivera and push the case toward the courts.

What The Affidavit Says Happened

According to the affidavit, Rivera knocked on the victim's door, then pushed his way inside when she opened it. The document states he kissed and groped the 31-year-old woman and tried to unbutton her clothing. The affidavit notes that he was working as a maintenance employee at the complex at the time.

The victim later picked Rivera out of a photo lineup, investigators wrote. Detectives also warned in the affidavit that Rivera "may attempt to flee to Mexico" as they seek the warrant, KENS5 reported.

Other Cases Put Maintenance Access Under Scrutiny

Concerns about people using a maintenance pretext to get inside homes are not new in San Antonio. In 2018, a man who claimed he was a maintenance worker was charged with aggravated sexual assault, as reported by the San Antonio Express-News.

Local coverage has also detailed other attempted assaults in apartments and offices in recent years, a trend that has tenants and advocates pushing property managers for clearer identification rules and ways to verify who is really supposed to be at their door, according to KSAT. Safety guidance typically includes confirming any scheduled maintenance directly with the property office and calling 911 immediately if someone forces their way in.

What Happens If The Judge Signs Off

If a judge approves the warrant, Rivera could be arrested and face prosecution on a state felony charge. Under Texas law, criminal attempts fall under the state's attempt statute and are generally punished one category lower than the completed offense, as outlined in the Texas Penal Code.

From there, the Bexar County district attorney's office would review detectives' findings and decide whether to file formal charges. For now, investigators say the work on the case is ongoing.
