San Diego woke up to clear skies and a brisk 54°F at San Diego International Airport early today. The rest of the day looks classic SoCal, with mostly sunny skies, a high near 74°F, and light northwest breezes setting up a comfortable afternoon. Coastal neighborhoods will run a bit cooler than inland spots, which are already gearing up for a noticeable warm-up later in the week.
Big Warm-Up Later This Week
By Thursday and Friday, high-pressure muscles tighten and crank up the thermostat. Daytime highs are expected to reach about 78°F on Thursday and climb to near 82°F on Friday, February 27. Inland valleys and the lower coastal slopes could surge into the 90s, while some lower-desert locations may push into the mid-to-upper 90s.
Winds stay on the lighter side out of the northwest, with gusts up to about 20 mph on Thursday and Friday. According to the National Weather Service in San Diego, there is a strong chance of record highs on Friday at several inland locations.
Night And Morning Fog Along The Coast
While inland areas heat up, the coast gets a different story. Late tonight into early Thursday morning, patchy to locally dense fog is expected to form along the immediate shoreline, most likely after about 1 AM tomorrow. That could trim visibility for early commuters and make the morning drive a bit trickier than usual.
Overnight lows along the coast will hover near 56°F, while inland lows will hold in the upper 50s. Most airports should continue operating without major issues, though coastal terminals could see brief morning delays if low clouds and fog thicken.
Weekend Outlook And Early Next Week
High pressure starts to loosen its grip over the weekend as onshore flow returns, nudging temperatures back toward seasonal levels from Saturday into Monday. Forecast guidance keeps the odds of measurable rain below 10% for Monday and Tuesday, March 2 and 3, so most outdoor plans look safe from any meaningful showers.
What To Plan For
If you are headed inland on Friday, be ready for the heat. Bring plenty of water, plan for shade where you can find it, and try to avoid strenuous activity during the hottest part of the day. Coastal commuters should allow extra time for the Thursday morning drive in case patchy fog and reduced visibility slow traffic along the shoreline.
