San Jose shoppers who had been counting down the days to the Bay Area’s first T&T Supermarket just got hit with another delay. The Canadian chain now says its long awaited Westgate Center location will not open until the spring of 2026, stretching out the wait for fans of its popular prepared foods and bakery items.
CEO Blames Power and Construction Snags
T&T CEO Tina Lee told followers in a short video that crews have run into construction and electrical problems that slowed the project, and that the company is not willing to debut the store without stable, permanent power, according to KRON4.
T&T’s Bay Area Push Keeps Growing
While the San Jose opening has slipped, the chain’s larger San Francisco City Center store at 2675 Geary Blvd. is still slated for later in 2026, and company announcements continue to point to a broader California rollout. The chain, a Vancouver-founded staple in Canada that is described as one of the country’s largest Asian supermarket operators, has laid out its U.S. openings and feature plans as reported by the San Francisco Chronicle and in a company release via PR Newswire, while Hoodline has been tracking the rollout.
Hiring Push Continues Despite the Delay
Even with the store pushed back to 2026, T&T says hiring for the San Jose location is already in full swing. The company is recruiting more than 300 positions and is holding job fairs this weekend at Grand Century Mall and at Westgate Center to staff the market, according to KRON4. Local hiring notices and recruiter postings indicate the store will staff deli, bakery, and prepared food counters once construction and utility work are finally wrapped up.
For shoppers, the setback means a longer wait for T&T’s private label dumplings, hot food bar, and bakery treats. For neighbors, it delays the traffic and construction impacts that tend to arrive with a large grocer. The company says it will post schedule updates as utility work and inspections are completed.
