
A family dispute in Santa Fe Springs turned deadly Thursday evening, leaving one adult man dead and a juvenile wounded, according to authorities. Police arrested a juvenile suspect at the scene and shut down a stretch of Telegraph Avenue while they picked through the evidence.
What police said
Officers from the Whittier Police Department responded to reports of shots fired on the 11600 block of Telegraph Avenue around 5:30 p.m. and found an adult male dead and a juvenile suffering from stab wounds, according to NBC Los Angeles. The injured juvenile was taken to a nearby hospital, and a juvenile suspect was arrested at the scene.
Police told investigators that the victims and the suspect appear to be related and that the incident does not appear to be gang‑related, NBC Los Angeles reported.
Scene and response
Authorities blocked Telegraph Avenue at Jersey Avenue while detectives combed the area for clues. The Whittier Police Department, which provides policing services for Santa Fe Springs, is leading the investigation, according to the Whittier Police Department website.
