A security guard was injured in a shooting near Seattle’s Pioneer Square on Thursday night, rattling a neighborhood already on edge over recent gunfire in its busy nightlife zone.
Seattle police said officers rushed to the scene after reports of shots fired in the area. The department confirmed that a security guard had been hurt but did not immediately release how badly the guard was wounded. The incident remains under active investigation.
In a post on X, the Seattle Police Department said officers were on scene and detectives were investigating. The post did not include any information about a suspect or identify the security guard.
Pioneer Square’s Violent Streak Continues
The shooting is the latest in a series of violent incidents around Pioneer Square. In November, a man was seriously wounded in a shooting outside a nightclub, and an on-site security guard was detained at the scene, as reported by KIRO 7. Those earlier incidents triggered increased patrols and fresh concern among downtown businesses about safety after dark.
Detectives Seek Witnesses, Video
Investigators are asking anyone who saw the shooting or has video from the area to contact police. Previous posts from the department and its blotter direct people to call the Violent Crimes Tip Line at (206) 233-5000, according to the SPD Blotter. People with immediate or urgent information are urged to call 911 while officers and detectives process the scene.
City officials had not released the guard’s name or provided an update on his condition at the time of the department’s post. This story will be updated as Seattle police and local outlets release more details.
