Right Proper Brewing Company is gearing up for a major shuffle of its D.C. footprint. The longtime neighborhood staple will close its Shaw brewpub on March 1, 2026, then relocate the restaurant into a new “2nd‑generation restaurants” space somewhere else in Washington, D.C. The move comes as the brewery keeps expanding around the city, with a Brookland production taproom already open and an Eckington pilot brewery planned for 2026.
As reported by PoPville, Right Proper shared the news in a short Instagram video, confirming that March 1 will be the Shaw location’s final day of service and that the business intends to land in a “2nd generation restaurants space” elsewhere in the District. According to PoPville, the brewery has not yet revealed who will take over the T Street address.
Right Proper first opened the Shaw brewpub in December 2013, as noted by DC Beer. The company currently lists an Eckington “pilot brewery + kitchen” as “Coming 2026,” and its Brookland production brewery and taproom remain in operation. Earlier local coverage described the Eckington project as a 5,500‑square‑foot brew house with a kitchen and events space, according to Eater DC.
What This Means For Shaw
Right Proper’s exit marks the end of a more than decade‑long run on T Street, a block that has leaned on the brewpub as a neighborhood anchor. PoPville reports that the owners are keeping quiet about a successor tenant, which leaves neighbors and nearby businesses guessing about what comes next for the space. The move highlights how both restaurateurs and landlords continue to reposition properties across Shaw as the dining and bar scene keeps shifting.
Timeline And Where To Find Their Beer
The Shaw brewpub's last day of service is scheduled for March 1. After that, Right Proper’s beer and canned releases will still be available at its Brookland production taproom. The Eckington site remains listed as “Coming 2026” on Right Proper's website, and earlier local reporting has detailed the planned buildout and programming for that location. We will update when Right Proper or the next tenant of the T Street property shares additional information.
