The Shorewood Police Department has issued a warning about an increase in romance scams on social media and dating platforms, especially after Valentine’s Day. Scammers build trust with victims before seeking money or gifts.
According to a Shorewood Police Department's Facebook post never send money or gift cards to someone you haven’t met in person. If something seems suspicious, stop communication and contact authorities. Victims who have sent money should also notify their bank.
Shorewood Police encourage reporting scams to both law enforcement and the platforms where the interactions occurred. These precautions aim to help individuals protect themselves from online romance fraud.
