Hot dogs and cocktails are about to get a new home on the downtown McKinney square, as Shorty's, a coneys-and-cocktails bar from Bryan and Angela McVay, readies a March 16 opening at 109 N. Kentucky Street, according to Shorty's. The compact stand-and-seat spot will focus on hot dogs, smash burgers and sandwiches alongside cocktails, wine and beer.
Co-owner Bryan McVay said he wants the place to be as much about local pride as late-night snacks. He hopes to celebrate and share McKinney’s history, he told Community Impact, and the couple plans to line the walls with early photographs and videos of the square. That mix of memorabilia and quick comfort food is meant to make Shorty's work as both a daytime grab-and-go stop and an evening cocktail bar.
What Shorty's Will Serve
The menu at Shorty's features hot dogs such as the Original Coney and Sonoran, several smash-burger options, including a King Smash, and sandwiches from a Famous Philly to a Filet O'Whitefish. The bar list includes house cocktails ranging from a Pecan Old Fashioned to a Shorty's Margarita, plus beer and wine, and the site notes dine-in, takeout and online ordering.

Shorty's arrives in the middle of a busy spring for downtown McKinney; the city's events calendar and listings from Visit McKinney show walks, beer-walk events and festivals that bring foot traffic to the square. Owners say the spot will offer dine-in, takeout and online ordering, positioning Shorty's as a quick lunch stop and an evening cocktail hangout for visitors and residents alike.
