Drivers across the South Bay and down into the Salinas Valley are starting today inside a thick gray blanket, with dense fog cutting visibility across the region. Localized pockets of very low visibility are reported near Salinas and King City, and some interior valleys, including portions of the North Bay, saw similar conditions earlier. A Dense Fog Advisory is in effect through 11 AM PST today. Morning temperatures are mostly in the low to mid 50s near the airports and valley floors, but once the fog burns off, sunshine should take over.
Fog Then Sun: Today's Forecast
Areas of fog are expected to hang around through about 10 AM, then skies should clear to mostly sunny for the rest of the day. San Jose and the surrounding interior valleys are headed for a high near 73°F, a classic winter warm-up once the low clouds retreat. Northwest winds will stay light, around 1 to 6 mph. For the full forecast, see the National Weather Service.
Commute And Travel
Morning commuters should be ready for patchy to locally dense fog through the early drive, especially in low-lying spots. Slow down where visibility drops, use low beam headlights, and leave extra stopping distance. Valley fog should lift by late morning, though the lowest spots and coastal approaches may remain a bit murky longer.
Weekend Outlook
Warmer and drier weather builds in on Friday, with highs near 77°F in the hottest inland pockets, then backs off slightly Saturday into the low 70s. A cooler turn arrives Sunday into Monday as a weak low passes to the north, bringing only a slight chance of light rain and some renewed patchy fog overnight. Most spots should stay dry, with gradual warming expected again by midweek.
Quick Tips
If you are driving in the fog this morning, ease off the gas and give yourself extra room to stop whenever visibility drops. Skip the high beams, which can reflect off the fog and make things worse. If you have time-sensitive travel, such as flights or long transit connections, check for any delays or schedule changes before you head out.
