Oklahoma City woke up today, to clear skies and a crisp 38°F at sunrise, but the chill is not sticking around. Under mostly sunny skies, temperatures are expected to surge into the upper 60s to around 70°F this afternoon, with a south‑southwest breeze adding to the mild feel. It will be a pleasant, breezy day before a much wetter system muscles in late Friday.
Afternoon Winds Pick Up
Southerly winds will ramp up through midday and the afternoon, generally 7–14 mph with gusts up to 21 mph. Those gusty conditions could tug at loose lawn furniture and make the afternoon commute a bit more lively, so secure lightweight items and be ready for some pushback on exposed roadways. Sustained winds near 14 mph are expected around midday.
Wet Pattern Friday Into Saturday
A strong system moves in Friday evening into Saturday, bringing a widespread chance of showers and thunderstorms from Friday, through Saturday. Showers and storms become likely Friday night into Saturday, with periods of moderate to heavy rain and pockets of 1 inch or more possible across east‑central to southeastern Oklahoma, so flash flooding and ponding on roadways cannot be ruled out. The heaviest rain is expected Friday night into Saturday night as the low‑level jet strengthens, according to the National Weather Service Norman.
Storms Could Be Strong
Forecasters highlight a marginal risk for a few strong storms Friday evening that could produce hail and damaging wind, although widespread severe weather is not anticipated at this time. Heavy nocturnal rain could quickly cut visibility and leave standing water on roads, so drivers should slow down and steer clear of flooded areas. Looking Ahead
Rain should taper from northwest to southeast by early Sunday morning, setting up a sunnier Sunday, with highs near the mid 60s. A warm pattern builds again next week, with highs near 72°F on Monday, and mid 70s possible Tuesday. Near‑record readings could arrive by Wednesday, depending on how much rain falls over the weekend. Keep an eye on updates if you have outdoor plans lined up next weekend.
