St. Charles County seniors should note that the 2026 application and renewal period for the Seniors Real Estate Property Tax Relief Program runs from March 1 through June 30. The program helped seniors save more than $5 million on their 2025 property taxes, according to the county’s announcement.
Eligible residents who turned 62 by January 1, may qualify for a freeze on their property tax increase. The relief does not apply to the state portion of the tax or to voter-approved bond issues, but it can still provide substantial savings for many seniors.
To qualify, you must be 62 as of January 1, hold the title to your home or trust, make the property your primary residence, and be responsible for paying the property tax. Only one resident of the home needs to meet these criteria to apply. Applications and renewals will be available online starting March 1, according to St. Charles County.
New applicants must complete a form and provide proof of age, identity, and primary residence. If the home is held in a trust, applicants should submit the trust document or schedule a trust review. For those renewing, the Collector’s Office will offer free notary services for forms from March 1 through June 30.
Seniors who participated in the program in 2025 will receive a simplified renewal form with their 2025 tax bill. Only a notarized signature confirming continued residency and an unchanged property title is required. Service centers will be available to assist with applications and notarization, with locations, dates, and times expected to be announced by March 1.
New applicants should note that the program uses the November 2026 tax bill as the base year, so savings will apply in future years. Seniors who turned 62 in 2025 or earlier and are enrolling now can backdate their base year to when they first qualified. To help with deadlines, St. Charles County offers a text reminder service—text #RemindMe to (833) 547‑2005 to receive notifications for tax actions and other county services.
