A Thursday night crash at a St. Francois County intersection left a 20-year-old Farmington motorcyclist dead and two children with minor injuries after an SUV turned into the path of his bike, authorities said.
Crash details
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the collision happened just before 8 p.m. on April 30 at Route OO and Williams Drive. A southbound 2016 Chevrolet Equinox attempted a left turn onto Williams Drive and moved into the path of a northbound 2019 Kawasaki motorcycle. The motorcycle struck the front right side of the SUV, and the impact was reported at about 7:51 p.m., according to KTTN.
Victim and first responders
Troopers say the motorcycle operator, a 20-year-old man from Farmington, was wearing a helmet but was ejected in the crash. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the St. Francois County coroner. Emergency crews and troopers responded to the intersection, and the Equinox driver was not injured, according to FOX 2.
Children hurt, driver uninjured
Two children riding in the Equinox, a 7-year-old boy and a 9-year-old girl, both from Farmington, suffered minor injuries. Authorities said both were buckled into the back seat and wearing seat belts. They were taken by private vehicle to Parkland Health Center for treatment, as reported by KTTN.
Investigation and road impacts
The Missouri State Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate the crash. Buckley Towing removed the heavily damaged vehicles from the scene, and the intersection was temporarily closed while troopers worked, causing delays for drivers in the area, according to FOX 2.
Safety note
Investigators say left-turn conflicts like this are a common factor in serious motorcycle crashes, when bikes can be harder to spot or are misjudged for speed and distance. The collision is a stark reminder for drivers to yield properly and scan carefully for oncoming two-wheel traffic before turning. Anyone with information about the crash, including dashcam or security footage from the area, is encouraged to contact the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
