Local motorists and residents prepare to tread alternative paths, as a string of road closures and construction activities continue to reshape traffic patterns in St. Charles Parish. St. Charles Parish government has announced that a significant part of Hwy 628 (CC Road) will be closed until March 13, 2026, for the installation of sheet and batter piles.
While the area between the KCS railroad and Hwy 61 is blocked off, roads remain accessible from the KCS railroad to the spillway road and River Road; however, haul trucks, Cembell Industries, and Vickers Lane residents are directed to use Spillway Road or River Road, which can only mean added travel time, and perhaps a touch of frustration, for those navigating the daily detours or the emergency access lane at the PS #2 construction site, as eported by the St. Charles Parish.
Further complicating the local commute, Jonathan Street in Destrehan stays shut indefinitely, forcing emergency vehicles to redirect via Bunge's heavy hall road for reaching Noel Street, bypassing Lorraine Street in the process. Additionally, Ormond Center Court faces its own upheaval, blocked from 150 Ormond Center Court to 3001 Ormond Blvd, although a detour is reportedly in place for vehicle traffic
The disruptions extend to highway LA 3127 with on-and-off lane closures between the St. James Parish Line and St. Charles Parish Line, the construction scheduled from 6AM to 6PM until October 30, 2026, weather willing and while this might exhaust commuters, various alternatives have been presented motorists traveling LA 3127 east may take LA 3213 north to LA 641, then north to I-10, then east to I-310 (Exit 220), then south to re-intersect LA 3127, and those headed west can route through I-310 north to I-10, then west to LA 641 (Exit 194), and then south to LA 3213, as detailed by the St. Charles Parish.
Completing this tangled weave of construction, LA 3127 and LA 3160 will have intermittent lane and shoulder closures until February 27, 2026, for utility work; these closures on LA 3160 span from LA 3127 to the railroad crossing and are projected to take place Monday to Friday, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and on weekends from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., as per the same St. Charles Parish government release. Commuters are advised to plan for potential delays or seek alternative routes where possible.
