Commuters in St. Johns County should plan for delays next week as the Florida East Coast Railway will temporarily close the railroad crossing at Race Track Road for maintenance. The closure near the U.S. 1 intersection will begin at 8 p.m. on Saturday and is expected to reopen the evening of February 10, the railway company reported.
The closure is scheduled to allow for maintenance on the railroad crossing. During this time, vehicles, bicycles, and pedestrians will not be able to cross the tracks. St. Johns County will provide detour information in advance, and message boards notifying drivers of the upcoming closure will be placed seven days before the work begins.
Detour routes have been established to reduce disruption during the closure. Drivers traveling on U.S. 1 from Jacksonville can use Old St. Augustine Road to Bartram Park Boulevard. Those coming from St. Augustine should take Old County Road 210 to CR 210, then to St. Johns Parkway (CR 2209). Residents of Nocatee, Palm Valley, or Ponte Vedra can follow Valley Ridge Boulevard to CR 210 and connect to St. Johns Parkway (CR 2209). Detailed detour maps are available for each direction to help minimize confusion and delays.
Officials are urging road users to follow detour signs, exercise caution, and allow extra travel time during the closure. Questions about the maintenance work can be directed to the Florida East Coast Railway at 904-279-3196. With detours and guidance in place, the temporary disruption is expected to be manageable for the community.
