The Statesville Police Department is taking part in the Special Olympics Iredell County Polar Plunge. In a social media post, the department said a team of officers will brave the icy water to support the cause.
The late addition to the plunge roster includes Officer D. Adams, Officer Exon, along with School Resource Officers (SROs) Ealy from Statesville High School, Brannon from Oakwood Middle School, and Long from East Iredell Elementary School. The SPD's challenge, as described in their Facebook post, is not just about to take the cold plunge but to rally community support in favor of the Special Olympics.
The department hopes to raise $1,500 by Friday and is encouraging students, teachers, and families to donate in support of their SROs. SPD also joked that the Statesville Fire Department shouldn’t steal all the spotlight, turning the plunge into a friendly competition.
The department is encouraging community members to donate, share the fundraiser, and cheer the officers on. SPD said the plunge reflects their commitment to supporting Special Olympics athletes and the community they serve.
