Raíces Mexican Cantina brings traditional Mexican cuisine and culture to Sterling Heights. The restaurant features dishes such as mole, birria, and churros, along with music and artwork that reflect Mexican heritage, as per the City of Sterling Heights.
Owner Maria Aldana said her background influences the restaurant’s concept. She began working at a young age in Guadalajara and moved to the United States at 18. After operating several food businesses in the Detroit area, she opened Raíces following the sale of her previous venture in 2024.
The menu includes recipes inspired by family traditions, including birria based on her father’s cooking and mole poblano served at family gatherings. The restaurant prepares its seasonings in-house, drawing on Aldana’s years of experience in the food industry.
Aldana said many longtime customers have supported the new location. Raíces Mexican Cantina is located at 44805 Mound Road near Dobry Drive and is open throughout the week.
