Middle Tennessee is starting Friday under a blanket of dense fog, with sudden drops in visibility slowing the morning rush and a Dense Fog Advisory in place until 10 a.m. CST. Temperatures sit in the low 40s across the metro but are expected to rebound quickly into the mid-60s by afternoon under mostly sunny skies. Once the fog burns off, light winds and a high near 66F will make it feel more like early spring than late winter.
Fog This Morning
The National Weather Service in Nashville warns that visibility could plunge to one-quarter mile or less, especially in river valleys and across the Upper Cumberland. Drivers are urged to take it slow: "If driving, slow down, use your headlights, and leave plenty of distance ahead of you," the office advised. The Dense Fog Advisory runs until 10 a.m. CST, according to NWS Nashville.
Sunny Afternoon
As the morning wears on, the fog should lift, and skies will gradually clear, setting up a bright and calm afternoon across the area. Temperatures will climb from the chilly low 40s into the mid-60s, with light or near-calm winds and comfortable conditions for getting outside once the morning commute settles down. The local First Alert forecast calls for a high near 66F this afternoon; see WSMV for more details.
Weekend Preview
Saturday looks even warmer, with plenty of sunshine and a high near 72F. Sunday brings a few more clouds and a cooler high around 64F. Rain chances return late Sunday night into Monday, but current guidance keeps most of next week on the mild side, with only low to moderate chances for showers. Forecasters expect light precipitation totals and a low risk of hazardous weather heading into next week.
Commute Tips
Plan on extra time for the morning drive, use low-beam headlights in fog, and leave more stopping distance than usual on wet or slick roads. If visibility drops to nearly zero, pull off at a safe, well-lit location and wait for conditions to improve rather than trying to push through the thickest fog.
