Tim Hortons, the Canadian coffee-and-doughnut giant long familiar to border-crossers and hockey fans, is officially making a play for San Antonio. The brand is planning its first local restaurant at Redland Plaza on the North Side, at 2919 N. Loop 1604 E, after state filings surfaced Monday for the site. Records show the space is being converted into a sit-down restaurant with a drive-thru, although the franchise has not yet circled a public opening date.
State permit lists a quick buildout
Project documents filed with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation label the Redland Plaza location as project "Pan Dulce–Redland Plaza" and detail a renovation for a new sit-down and drive-thru restaurant. According to the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, the registration lists a November 3, 2025 start date and an April 1, 2026 completion date, a construction window that points to a potential spring opening if inspections and permits stay on track.
Local reporting and the chain's U.S. push
CultureMap San Antonio first spotted the Tim Hortons filing for the North Side address and highlighted the chain's familiar staples of Timbits, doughnuts, breakfast sandwiches, bagels and espresso drinks. The San Antonio move folds into a broader push across the United States, where industry coverage notes that Tim Hortons already operates hundreds of locations. U.S. president Katerina Glyptis has said the company has been signing franchise agreements across the country, including several in Texas, according to QSR Magazine.
What the shop will probably sell
San Antonio customers can expect the usual Tim Hortons playbook: doughnuts, Timbits and coffee, plus breakfast sandwiches and bagels, with the permit confirming that a drive-thru is part of the plan. The chain's standard menu and service format are laid out on the brand's official site, per Tim Hortons.
Where this fits in San Antonio
The arrival adds another big-name player to a coffee scene where homegrown brands are also stretching their reach. San Antonio-based Merit Coffee has been moving onto grocery shelves and expanding beyond the city, a sign that both local and national operators are jockeying for morning traffic, according to expands Texas footprint.
There is still no official opening date, but state filings show an April 1, 2026 completion target, per the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, which could translate into a spring launch if everything stays on schedule. The timeline will be updated once the franchisee or Tim Hortons confirms an official opening plan.
