Parents in New York, New Jersey, and other areas are being advised to check their infants’ food following a product recall. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has identified “Tippy Toes” Apple Pear Banana Fruit Puree, produced by IF Copack LLC (doing business as Initiative Foods), as potentially hazardous due to elevated levels of patulin, PIX 11 reported.
Patulin is a naturally occurring mold byproduct that can be harmful if ingested at high levels over time, potentially causing immune suppression, nervous system damage, and short-term effects such as headaches, fevers, and nausea. No illnesses have been reported, and the recall is being issued as a precaution. Parents are advised to dispose of or return bottles with a “best by” date of July 17, 2026, which are marked with the package code INIA0120, as per ABC7NY. The recalled products were distributed to grocery stores nationwide, except in Alaska, which was not affected.
In response to the recall, Initiative Foods CEO Don Ephgrave released a statement emphasizing the company’s commitment to consumer safety. He said the company is cooperating with the FDA to review its products and implement enhanced safety measures.
Parents and guardians are encouraged to consult the FDA’s recall notice for detailed information on the affected products and recommended actions. Keeping receipts or noting the place of purchase is advised, as they may be needed for refunds for the recalled “Tippy Toes” Apple Pear Banana Fruit Puree, as reported by PIX 11.
